The ZBW does research in the fields of information science and media informatics. This enables us to adapt our services dynamically to changing circumstances, and to develop new services for you. Our application-oriented research aims to develop internet-based work environments and to provide support for excellent research in economics.

The ZBW has a close network of international research partners. Our cooperation partners collaborate with us in the Leibniz Research Alliance Science 2.0, initiated in 2012 by the ZBW, as well as in EU projects and projects of the Alliance of Science Organisations in Germany. More information.
Professors in computer science head ZBW research.
The ZBW – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics and the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel have jointly established three chairs at the ZBW. These professors in computer science work in the field of Web Science, Knowledge Discovery and Media Informatics. Based on these new research activities, we continually develop and innovate our online services.
International PhD candidates design new ZBW services.
In 2012, the ZBW became the first library in Germany to have established an international research team investigating semantic technologies and the Social Web. Their research activities aim to improve existing ZBW services and to develop new ones. In 2013, the first two candidates graduated successfully from the University of Kiel.
